Thousands of Greek Businesses Relocate to Bulgaria

bulgAlmost 6,000 Greek businesses have relocated to Bulgaria in the last two years alone, says the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (GSEVEE).
In addition, about 60,000 Greeks have registered new companies in Bulgaria’s tax offices or opened accounts in Bulgarian banks, said GSEVEE president Giorgos Kavathas on Tuesday.
The figures come from an ongoing survey by GSEVEE, with Kavathas saying that the changes planned for Greece’s social security system and taxation will lead more Greek firms to migrate to the neighboring country.
Kavathas spoke at a press conference held jointly by GSEVEE and the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Enterprises (ESEE), announcing their participation in Thursday’s general strike against the government’s proposed pension reforms. The two unions warned that manufacturers and merchants will not stop at this strike, and will escalate their protest actions further.
President of ESEE Vassilis Korkidis said that, “The social security issue is a major national issue and we agree there has to be a reform, although no actuarial study would lead to safe conclusions given the existence of 1.5 million jobless.”
