Athens International Airport Among the Best in Europe

It is said that a tourist’s last memory of the place he visited is leaving the airport. If the saying is true, then thousands of people may have been frustrated when leaving from Greece this summer. The fact that four regional Greek airports were included on the list of the worst airports in Europe is no laughing matter, however, Athens International Airport was voted among the best airports in Europe.
The annual airport ranking list posted on the website was based on research conducted among more than 10,000 tourists. Each airport is assessed in four categories: comfort, facilities, cleanliness, and customer service.
This year, tourists found the airports in Santorini, Rhodes, Heraklion and Corfu quite disappointing. The airport on the Greek island of Santorini was voted second worst in Europe, due to its apparent lack of waiting areas and restaurants, as well as shortcomings in safety.
Furthermore, Rhodes airport was voted third worst in Europe, according to tourists’ comments, who complained about endless queues at the check-in desks, security control areas, and shops. There were also several complaints about the airport’s cleanliness.
Heraklion airport came in 4th place with tourists wondering why there is only one security control machine, even though it is one of the busiest Greek airports. Finally, Corfu airport was voted in 7th place due to the fact that it is really small. Tourists also complained that the staff is not helpful, while long lines are always forming at the security checkpoint.
On the other hand, tourists appeared satisfied with their experience at Athens International Airport, which ranked 7th on the list of Europe’s best airports. Tourists raved about its cleanliness, the comfortable seating areas and the pleasant staff. However, they pointed out that the stores and restaurants are slightly uninspired.
