Controversial MP Appointed Deputy Minister in New Greek Govt

ena-mualokameno-paizei-me-to-aousbits.w_lThe appointment as deputy minister of Independent Greeks MP Dimitris Kammenos, who has circulated antisemitic conspiracy theories, created a controversy as soon as the new government was inaugurated.
Kammenos, who has been appointed deputy minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, has tweeted in the past a suggestion that Israel was behind the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11, 2001. He alleged that none of the 2,500 Jewish employees who were working at the World Trade Center showed up at work on that fatal day.
In June, the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS), criticized a doctored photograph of the entrance to the Auschwitz concentration camp that Kammenos posted on Facebook. The photograph showed the sign over the entrance reading “We’re staying in Europe”, which was the slogan of the pro-euro rallies before the July referendum.
KIS called the post “shameful” for “trivializing in the most hideous way the sign over the gate of Auschwitz.” To his defense Kammenos wrote on Facebook, “Maybe the comparison was unfortunate but my country is experiencing an economic holocaust” and called the incident a misunderstanding.
Also, the Independent Greeks lawmaker has posted racist and homophobic remarks on Facebook. However, his account was deactivated after he was announced member of the new cabinet.
