New Record for Greek Tourism: Around 26M Arrivals in 2015

greek-tourismThe difficult economic situation in Greece, the instability of the political system and the imposition of capital controls do not appear to have affected the country’s tourism industry. Once again this year, tourists showed their support toward Greece, defying the negative attention that the country has attracted in light of the political and economic developments.
Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) president Andreas Andreadis managed to raise the bar even higher in regards to the Greek tourism industry’s performance in 2015, based on the numbers of air and road arrivals to the country, which continue to provide momentum to the industry.
Andreadis estimated that the total number of international arrivals by airplanes, cars and boats will reach 26 million by the end of the season. As a result, the number of international tourists in 2015 will exceed last year’s performance when Greece welcomed 24 million tourists. The number will be even higher than SETE’s initial forecast for this year, since before the political developments, the association had estimated that the number of international arrivals would reach 25 million.
