The White House said on Wednesday it believes all parties involved in negotiations over Greece’s financial crisis want the country to stay in the Eurozone, according to Reuters.
White House spokesperson Josh Earnest told reporters on Air Force One that the United States encouraged Greece and international creditors to recognize the mutual interest they have in resolving the situation.
Greece is holding a referendum on Sunday with the Greek government calling citizens to decide whether they want a bailout agreement that includes austerity measures or not. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras urged Greeks to say “No” to a deal.
However, top European officials expressed the opinion that a “No” to an agreement would mean that Greeks do not want to be in the Eurozone.
