Greek State Minister: Wherever the IMF Goes, Harsh Austerity Is Imposed

FlambourarisGreek Minister of State for Coordinating Government Operations Alekos Flambouraris left insinuations over the International Monetary Fund’s stance and referred to “games on IMF’s part” speaking to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT on Friday.
He also proposed the IMF‘s withdrawal from the negotiations and the extension of the payment of June’s installment. “I doubt the figures constantly released by the institutions,” he said commenting on Jerry Rice’s statement that according to the IMF “the Greeks get their pensions 7 years earlier than the Germans,” adding that “people are not numbers.”
“Wherever the IMF has gone, it has created a tremendous austerity. There are just a few exceptions of countries where growth has been achieved,” noted Flambouraris and proposed the Fund’s retirement from the negotiation. “The IMF can leave from the negotiation table. The European Commission can buy the loan. The European leadership can play its role,” he stated and estimated that “the IMF is playing games” regarding the deadline set in the negotiation while he wondered: “What means time is running out?”
At a question on a possible Grexit, he said that it has been heard since 2009 and we are in 2015 and it hasn’t happened, while regarding the possibility of a bankruptcy he said that “it is not in the creditors’ interest” and quoted German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “Merkel has stated that a Greek bankruptcy will be damage for us but it will cost much more to the world economy,” he said. In any case, he “sees” an agreement very soon, most probably at the Eurogroup. “I hope that the agreement will be reached very soon. On June 18, at the next Eurogroup,” he noted.
