Fortune: Greek Businesswoman Among 25 World’s Most Powerful

frangouWidely-respected Fortune magazine included Greek shipowner and businesswoman Angeliki Frangou in the list with the 25 most powerful women in the world for 2014.

Frangou, originating from the island of Chios, Greece, is considered one of the world’s shipping magnate. The powerful Greek shipowner obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.

Frangou has a son, Nicholas, and lives in New York. She owns houses in Chios, Athens, Monaco and New York. She loves the opera, while she is a collector of Greek, Byzantine and Chinese artwork.

She belongs to the fourth generation of the Frangos family involved in the shipping industry.

She is president and CEO of Navios Maritime Holdings Inc. since August 25, 2005, and its subsidiaries Navios Partners and Navios Maritime Acquisition Corporation. She is also Chair of Navios South American Logistics since its establishment in December 2007.

In the past, she had served as Chair, CEO and President of International Shipping Enterprises, which acquired Navios Holdings. From 1990 until August 2005, she was CEO of Maritime Enterprises Management SA,  which specializes in dry bulk vessels management.
