Vaulted Tomb Discovered in Amfissa

tombA monument of great importance was discovered near Amfissa, central Greece, during an excavation project. It is a Greek vaulted tomb that dates back to the Mycenaean period.
The tomb is 9 meters long with a deep vestibule and a circular burial chamber which has a maximum internal diameter of 5.90 meters. Although the superstructure of the dome had collapsed, the walls of the chamber maintain a height of almost three meters.
Along with the vaulted tomb, archaeologists unearthed many other unique findings such as 44 pieces of painted pottery, two bronze vases, gold and bronze rings, one of which with an engraved decoration on its sphendone, buttons made of semi precious stones, two bronze daggers, female and zoomorphic idols and a large number of sealstones with animal, floral and linear motives.
The excavation was held in the presence of the local ephorate of antiquities and police in order to protect the precious archaeological findings.
