Safe Place: A Shocking Greek 3D Animation

animationGreek animator Angelos Roditakis created a deeply moving 3D animation entitled “Safe Place” in order to raise awareness on the issue of domestic violence.
A little child is playing with his toys in his room when his dad arrives clearly intoxicated. The child, knowing well what is going to follow, tries to hide in the closet, in a hopeless attempt to avoid abuse. Unfortunately, his dad finds him.
Roditakis used a complex and difficult technique, called character animation. This technique has been developed by major Hollywood studios such as Pixar-Disney and Dreamworks, as well as studios in Japan and France.
Roditakis has stated that he is inspired by the cinema and similar awareness campaigns. He doesn’t like happy endings or divine interventions, as they embellish such important issues like domestic violence. As he says, in such situations, solution won’t be found within the four walls of a house.
Greece is among the 10 European countries with the highest rates of domestic violence and this animation is like a punch in the stomach of the modern Greek society.
