Greece Tops Lonely Planet’s ‘Best in Europe’ List

greece3The editors of the famous travel guide “Lonely Planet” are predicting that Greece will be the top travel destination in Europe this year, as the country is recovering from financial crisis.

“Greece’s ongoing financial crisis has caused visitor numbers to decrease and, as a result, prices have dropped in an effort to woo back travelers. In fact Santorini was added to the European Backpacker Index for 2014,” says Lonely Planet, pointing out that Greece besides its beauty is also a very affordable summer destination.

Greek tourism is flourishing again after many years of decrease. Last year, Greece received about 20 million visitors, while experts estimate that 2014 will also be a successful year for tourism.

Greece which ranked first in Lonely Planet’s “Best in Europe” list, is followed by Ljubljana (Slovenia), Southwest England, Italy, Viking Denmark, Seville (Spain),  Outer Hebrides (Scotland),  Plzen (Czech Republic), Stavanger (Norway) and  Toulouse (France).
