On Friday, March 7, a Greek Coast Guard patrol boat rescued twenty-one illegal immigrants in the sea area of Sikamia in Lesvos island, western Greece.
According to sources, among the survivors was the 37 year-old smuggler who was arrested on the spot. The Greek Coast Guard’s vessel located the motorized inflatable dinghy which had developed a problem; it overflowed with water because of the winds blowing in the area, causing the dinghy to immobilize and sink.
The Coast Guard’s vessel safely collected the immigrants, including four women and a child, and later transported them to the port of Mytilene, Lesvos.
