Culture Shoots CrisisBy Aspasia Zontanou

The association of Greek authors in Germany (“Die Gesellschaft Griechischer Autoren e.V.) formed in 2006, organize events where Greek authors as well as authors from other nationalities living in Germany (Turkish, Kurdish, German etc.) can showcase their work, read their books, or perform in front of an audience. The local spot called ZAKK, which has been hosting international musicians, artists and dancers for decades, seems to fit the occasion when it comes to gathering people who are interested in seeing and hearing something that is not shown on TV or radio; the focus of these gatherings at Zakk’s is aimed for an audience who seeks to grasp the pulse of the time, ask questions, and be involved in discussions.

In today’s poetry session Kultur Kickt Krise (“Culture Shoots Crisis”), the authors Michalis Patentalis, Niki Eideneier, Elena Palanza, Arzu Dorando, Dogan Akhani and Pamela Granderath, presented their work and their thoughts about the economical crisis affecting peoples everyday life in Athens, Düsseldorf, as well as other parts of the world. Pamela Granderath states that they do this by using the only effective weapon they have “…a pencil and a piece of paper!” Creating art that leads to more respect and understanding in our society. The musicians Vangelis Christidis and Kostas Papioannou accompanied the reading, while the guests could listen, read, drink coffee and have a delicious Greek breakfast.
