New National Observatory Building Coming

asteroskopeioThe construction of the new building of the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens is integrated in the Attica Regional Operational Programme (ROP).
The budget is estimated at €5.7 million and the construction is estimated to be completed in 2015, said  Attica Prefect Yiannis Sgouros.
As reported by Attica Region, the construction of the building will upgrade the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens and ensure the unhindered function of the National Seismic Network. The building’s future location is at the top of Koufou Hill in Penteli.
The energy efficiency of the building is favored of its form and the external heat insulation covering the total of its casing. It is 2.510,97 square meters in area and consists of four levels. There will be accommodated researchers’ and administrative staff’s offices, special spaces for servers and seismographs, an amphitheater, a refreshment room and a new chamber of seismological data analysis, which will be the building’s core.
On the occasion of the signing of the integration of the new building of the Institute of Geodynamics to the Attica ROP, Sgouros noted: “We keep on supporting the infrastructure of the research centers and institutions of Attica. Today, we integrate a project that will upgrade the Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens and will reinforce the effort for the country’s earthquake-proofing.”
