B259AB3A88B0590F0C2949335F827C71The countdown to the grant opening of the Archeological Museum of Pyrgos has started and the museum is expected to be ready by mid July. On May 2, the Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports, Kostas Tzavaras, visited the new museum of Pyrgos where the works are progressing feverishly.
Tzavaras visited the Museum of the ancient Municipal Agora of Pyrgos and the halls where the cases that will house ancient artifacts are being placed. The General Secretary of Culture, Lina Mendoni, informed him that, “Our goal is to have a significant part of the exhibition complete over the next four or six weeks,” adding that, “People might not know Greece, but they know Olympia.”
About the ancient temple’s Gymnasium that was revealed in the first five days of the excavation and the fact that the entrance to the archeological site is scheduled to be moved to the ancient entrance, Mendoni said,”The revelation is of significant importance, the Gymnasium was the place where the athletes prepared for the Olympic Games. So, due to this fact, it is a highly important monument of international fame.” She also reminded that the shifting of the entrance of the museum will take place in autumn when the museum will be less crowded by visitors.
