Greeks Show Chileans How to Dance

Events supporting Greece were organized by the Federation of Greek Communities in Chile, chaired by Mario Mancuso. They included lectures, Greek dances and attracted a large gathering.

Aa thanksgivingwas marked at the Church of Saint Constantine and Saint Helena, in Santiago, Chile’s capital. With the support of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, a long procession of Greek-flagged cars crossed the main streets of Santiago to a reviewing stand where officials were present, including the Greek Ambassador to Chile, Aglaia Balta, Consul Vagiani Gaidatzi, Serbian Bishop Anfilohije and representatives of Greek organizations, including the Benevolent Fraternity and the Greek-Chilean Institute of Santiago.

Special guests of the artistic and cultural program followed, including the Elementary School Republic of Greece from Puente Alto, and Constantine and Plato Schools, of Santiago. The festivities included a show of Chilean and Greek dances with a spirit of Zorba dancing filling the air.

In Arica, Northern Chile, billboards of Greek landscapes were erected by students from local schools. In southern Chile, Punta Arenas’ Greek community wrote articles about Greece for local newspapers.
