Greek Sex Statistics

Fervent lovers or… merely imaginary lovers? This is the question emerging about Greeks after a global survey on sexual performance conducted recently for international condom manufacturer Durex.
According to the survey, Greeks have sex with an average of 30 different sexual partners in their lifetime, a finding that ranks them first in this particular field of sexual activity across Europe. They are followed by the Spanish (reporting 20 different sexual partners), the French (19) and the Germans (17).
In the meantime, more than 1 out of 5 Greeks (22%) being in a serious or permanent relationship admit having cheated on their partners. Another 8% of Greek men is not content with being engaged in one parallel relationship but claims having parallel sexual contacts or affairs with three or more partners.
Furthermore, the Greeks are depicted as being the “naughtiest” lovers of them all: 22% of Greeks answered yes at being unfaithful to their relationship, followed by the Italians and Germans with 18% and 11% respectively.
However, Greek men are not the only ones. Greek women seem to follow the same path but in a more subtle and reserved manner. Greek women claim having sex with 10 different partners in their adult lifetime, while the German women rank first in this category with 12 different sexual partners.
As far as cheating is concerned, 1 out of 10 Greek women being in a permanent relationship admit having cheated on their other halves, while another 4% favors parallel relationships, i.e. the engaging in 3 and more relationships at the same time.
Nevertheless, despite their sexual energy, Greeks “fail” basic issues concerning their sexual health.
The survey’s results have shown that 30% of Greeks does not take any precautions against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in their first sexual intercourse.
The highest percentage of those having sex without protection (42%) claims being certain that the sexual partner was not a STDs carrier, while 26% of the Greeks being in a relationship claims not being totally certain on whether their partner had been infected in the past.
For many Greek women “risky” sex life seems to have begun right early, since 1 out of 3 claim not having safe sex in their first intercourse.
Other findings, however, show that almost 1 out of 4 Greeks (27%) having had unsafe sex admits regretting about it. Lastly, 75% of Greek women and 68% of Greek men express their wish on being better informed about HIV and STDs.
The survey was conducted for Durex by custom market research firm Harris Interactive through the Internet and personal interviews. The total sample included 29,003 adult participants from 36 countries and lasted from September 6 to October 3, 2011. 513 Greeks participated in the survey.
