Greek Children Access the Internet from Age Four

Before they even learn to spell the alphabet, young children in Greece surf the Internet on a daily basis.
A survey conducted by the Safe Internet Awareness Centre in Greece shows that 2 out of 10 kindergarten children (aged 4-6) access the Internet at home. In some kindergartens, this rate reaches up to 50% of the total number of kindergarten children while another 1% already owns an account in a social network platform.
What is also highly impressive is that parents have started buying mobile phones to their children from the age of 4.  However, the percentage of kindergarten children owning a mobile phone in Greece is very low (1%).
Facebook and other social networks are beginning to grow on elementary school children. According to the survey, 15% of elementary pupils in Greece have a profile in some social network.
60% of the high school children own a personal account on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc. Accessing the Internet for these ages is an everyday routine (88%), while 80% of them own a mobile phone.
The survey sample included 2,319 school units around Greece and took place from the 10th of May to the 25th of September.
