Fires broke out in Corfu, Rethymno, Kefalonia and Domokos

A fire broke out at 1 pm on Corfu, near the villages, Scripero, Alimatades, Doukades and Troubeta and burnt down olive trees and meadows. The blaze was thought to have spread quickly due to the strong winds on the scale of 7 beaufort, in the area.
A Fire also broke out in Kefalonia, in the region of Ratzakli and burnt down the forest area.
Another fire in Rethymno, Crete was bought under control after a very long night. In the municipality of Agios Vasileios, a raging fire has burnt down thousands of square meters of farm areas, olive trees and meadows. Fire officers are still trying to extinguish the flames. In another incident, villages at the southeastern part of Rethymno Krya Vrysi, Platanes, Kentrohori, Orne and Melabes were evacuated last night due to a fire.
Fortunately, human lives were not in danger nor were houses burnt down. It is estimated that the fire was caused by arson as the fire broke out at night in two different areas. However, strong winds also contributed to its expansion. There are still 56 fire fighters with 26 vehicles, 20 more fire fighters on foot and two helicopters trying to put out the fire.
At the village Domokos, at the borders of the regions Fthiotida-Magnisia a fire also broke out.
