GUISBOROUGH Theatre Club is going Greek in a big way!
Members are taking a suitably themed, one act play into two Teesside hotels, performed during courses of a Greek-style meal.
The novel idea is by Christa Spencer, the club’s publicity officer.
Performances will be at Middlesbrough’s Thistle Hotel at 6.30pm on November 12, when proceeds will go to Middlesbrough Mind.
Then on November 17 at Saltburn’s Rushpool Hall Hotel, proceeds will go to the Friends of Murambinda Hospital in support of the Murambinda Mission Hospital, Zimbabwe.
There will also be a charity raffle and auction at both venues.
Event director Bill Colombi said: “I’m always keen to try anything new.
“The Greek-themed play The Ass and the Philosopher, by Gwenyth Jones, was chosen .
“I’d read it at the first meeting of my play reading group at the newly-formed Guisborough University of the Third Age.
“It seemed natural to make the evening totally Greek-themed, and the Thistle Hotel came up with a suitable menu.
“The Three Course Theatre was born!”
The Murambinda Hospital charity has its roots in Guisborough and recently benefited by £950 from Bill’s production of Terence Rattigan’s The Winslow Boy in Nunthorpe earlier this year.
Bill said: “Christa and the cast and production team are responding magnificently to the challenges, such as working in-the-round.
“It promises to be a really enjoyable night out, with good food and entertainment rolled into one, in convivial surroundings, all in the cause of two very worthwhile charities.”
Greek-themed entertainment also includes music from New Steel and dance by J9 Dance Studio, both giving their services free, as is Impact Stage/Light Sound.
