Greek Freddo Rated Above Italian Cappuccino in World’s Best Coffees

Greek Freddo has overtaken Italian Cappuccino in a surprising outcome in the latest ratings of the world’s best coffees by Taste Atlas.

TasteAtlas food rankings are based on the ratings of the TasteAtlas audience, with a series of mechanisms that recognize real users and that ignore bot, nationalist or local patriotic ratings, and give additional value to the ratings of users that the system recognizes as knowledgeable.

For the “Top 38 Coffees in the World” list 3,701 ratings were recorded, of which 2,428 were recognized by the system as legitimate.

According to the list Espresso Freddo from Greece is in the third place of the world’s best coffees, followed by Cappuccino Freddo also of Greece.

The original Cappuccino of Italy drops to sixth place, a position that is bound to anger Italians who consider their trademark drink as the best in the world.

World coffees rating

The top coffee in the world is the Cuban Espresso. A unique, pre-sweetened type of espresso that originated in Cuba known as café Cubano is often referred to as Cuban espresso, Cuban coffee, Cuban pull, or Cuban shot.

Although it holds a unique status in Cuba, where it traditionally stands as the essential social and cultural beverage, Cuban espresso is also very popular and widely available throughout Latin America and Florida, Taste Atlas says.

Second in rankings is the South Indian Coffee which is a preparation technique in which coffee is brewed with the use of an Indian coffee filter. This filter consists of two chambers—the upper one with a perforated bottom used to hold ground coffee and the bottom one in which brewed coffee is slowly dripped.

Greek Espresso freddo, Freddo cappuccino and Frappé

Espresso Freddo is a simple Greek coffee that combines espresso and ice. Unlike similar ice coffee varieties that merely serve coffee over ice, this Greek version primarily blends the two ingredients until the coffee is slightly chilled, smooth, and creamy.

Slightly chilled coffee is then strained and poured over ice. Espresso freddo became popular in the 1990s, and nowadays, it is a staple throughout the country, according to Taste Atlas.

Freddo cappuccino is a chilled coffee variety that originates from Greece. It is made with espresso; usually a double shot, which is first blended with ice, strained, and then poured over ice. The drink is then topped with well-chilled milk that is shaken or blended until it achieves a light, frothy consistency.

Frappé, a Greek trademark, is in eighth place. According to Taste Atlas, “This Greek coffee type was created in 1957, despite the fact that the word frappe was first used in the 19th century. It is produced by blending instant coffee, water, and ice. The mixture is typically made in a shaker or hand mixer so that when the drink is poured into a glass, a frothy foam rises on top.”

Most people credit Dimitris Vaccondio, a former Nescafé employee, with creating the coffee frappe. When there was insufficient hot water to prepare instant coffee at the Thessaloniki International Fair, he accidentally invented the beverage.
