Turkish security forces seized two, invaluable 500-year-old Bibles in northwestern Edirne province on TUesday, according to reports from Turkey’s Anadolu News Agency.

The two handwritten manuscripts were discovered in a shoebox in a car heading toward the Turkish-Greek border. Three suspects were detained in relation to the attempted smuggling incident.

The historic artifacts were then delivered to the Edirne Museum Directorate, where they will be examined further.

The report by the Anadolu Press Agency does not specify the origin of the Bibles nor the place in Turkey from which they were stolen.
