Greek Woman Takes Charge of Italian Soccer Giants Roma

Lina Souloukou, a Greek sports executive, has been appointed by the historic Italian club A.S. Roma as the new Managing Director and General Manager.

The Italian club announced on Tuesday the start of its collaboration with the Greek woman who is a member of the ECA (European Association of Clubs) Board of Directors.

Souloukou, the former Olympiacos FC chief, is taking up her new duties “immediately,” Roma announced.

“Lina is experienced, respected and recognized in the world of football and business and we are delighted to welcome her to the Roma family. We will work closely with her to continue to take the club to the highest level, as the fans and the city deserve,” said Italian club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

Souloukou said in a statement, “I would like to express my gratitude to the Friedkin family for the opportunity they have given me: I have had the opportunity to understand and appreciate their spirit and ambition and I am honored to have the opportunity to share the challenges that await them in Roma.”

“I am thrilled to be joining this historic club and look forward to bringing the experience I have gained in the world of international football to the club, the managers and all employees,” she added.

Souloukou from Larissa and Olympiacos to Roma

Souloukou was born in 1983 in Larissa, Greece where she grew up. Her father was a goalkeeper and later on, a football coach, which inspired her to always be involved in sports.

She was a successful international volleyball player until the second year of her first law degree at the National and Kapodistian University of Athens.

During her studies, she worked at the Doping Control Department of the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, acquiring important professional experience.

In 2005 she moved to Spain to finish her degree in Law at the University of Salamanca. Following her graduation in 2006, she obtained a Masters in Sports Law and Management at the University Politecnica de Madrid.

Her entire professional career was oriented to the football field, and she was a specialized advisor in various positions.

Among other positions, she was appointed as a member of the Court of Arbitration for Football of the Hellenic Football Federation for 5 years.

Furthermore, during the past 12 years, she represented and collaborated with many Football Clubs, Institutions, and other football stakeholders (players – coaches, etc) on numerous issues. Along with her sister, she set up her own legal firm in 2007 which is still going strong.

In 2016 she joined Olympiacos FC as Head of Institutional and Legal Affairs and over a year later she became General Manager, a position she held until she joined Roma.
