In a major push towards a more sustainable and healthier future, Dubai-based company URB has proposed a new infrastructure project that promises to transform the city. Dubbed “The Loop,” the 93-kilometer indoor cycling and running track aims to make Dubai the most connected city in the world by foot or bike.

“The Loop” will wrap around Dubai and provide a “green corridor” for residents to walk or cycle around the city. It is intended to be the “smartest” cycling and running infrastructure in the world.

URB’s CEO Baharash Bagherian said, “The project aims to make Dubai the most connected city on Earth by foot or bike.”

‘Agritourism’ Destination in Dubai

The Agri Hub will cover forty hectares of land in Dubai’s desert. It will feature a unique structure unlike any other in the world. Shaped like a snake, it will be formed of a large steel canopy and pre-cast concrete, with the carbon emissions offset by the operations of the site.

URB’s CEO Baharash Bagherian said, “People may misunderstand agritourism. They think it’s looking at farm equipment, looking at farms, and going to pick fruit. With this project, we’re trying to disrupt the agritourism model, so it benefits everyone. Whether you’re a retailer, whether you’re a farmer, especially if you’re the consumer—there’s something of a greener economy for everyone.”

The Agri Hub will be powered using kinetic energy and feature a biogas plant to generate energy from organic waste. It will also have a biogas plant which will create electricity by converting organic waste into biogas.

Another key point of this forward-thinking architecture is its areas of learning and doing research. It will occupy eco-lodges, farm stores, as well as restaurants and cafés that serve food directly from local farms.

The bio-saline farming method in which plants are grown in salty water will be used at the Agri Hub. Recycled gray water from the site will be used to irrigate the public parts of the facility.

These areas will have drought-resistant plants and bioretention zones while neither will need any irrigation. Moreover, they will produce homes for a variety of animals, including birds and insects.

The project aims to provide a new and exciting way for guests to learn about sustainable practices and engage with them.

Largest Urban Facility

The CEO of URB, Baharash Bagherian, indicated that the Dubai 2040 urban master plan would be embraced by The Loop. This will provide improved connectivity, resilient infrastructure, and shared amenities for communities.

It will become the biggest urban sharing facility in the world, providing numerous areas with the opportunity to share the same space. This will be done in an effort to promote social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

The Loop is expected to be funded by private investors and be ready by 2040. Additionally, feasibility studies are currently underway to determine the best site for the development.
