An American millionaire from Chicago has sued “Scorpios,” one of Mykonos Island’s most opulent Beach Bars, after falling into a well. The businessman is seeking compensation worth hundreds of thousands of euros, as he was severely injured and broke multiple bones.

The 33-year-old is said to be a frequent visitor of Mykonos, Greece and a frequent customer of Scorpios. The incident, which took place in the parking lot of the popular beach bar, was managed by firefighters who were called to rush to the premises.

Additionally, an overnight operation was set up to retrieve the seriously injured man and transfer him via helicopter to a private hospital in Athens.

The procedure to extricate him from the deep well was in fact so difficult and dangerous that the rescuer was also seriously injured.

In order for Tadas Vilimas to return to the United States, he was placed in a special bed on the plane while, in the U.S., he was rehabilitated in a specialized clinic.

The businessman’s deposition

In the lawsuit, filed by the 33-year-old through his law firm and made public by a local news agency report, he describes what happened that night on Mykonos, also known as the “Island of the Winds.”

“On July 24, I visited the world-famous Scorpios in the Paraga area of Mykonos as a customer,” Vilimas reports. He was told to park opposite the beach bar in another parking lot, as there was no space at the time.

“I did park at this exact spot according to the instructions of the valet parking attendants, who stopped all vehicles and directed them toward the other location,” he explained.

Vilimas noted that he was driving a small vehicle, and the location he was instructed to park in was particularly for those types of vehicles.

Moment of the accident

Everything that followed, according to the businessman, was a true nightmare, as it occurred in total darkness.

“While walking back to my car at the end of the night, I fell into an unguarded well, eight meters deep, which was next to my car and in complete darkness,” he stated.

“My life was saved by a miracle just because there happened to be a mattress, a car tire and water at the bottom of the well, which combined reduced [the impact of] my fall,” he said. “I stayed there all night, trapped and severely injured.”

He added that “if it hadn’t been for the mattress and the tire, [he] would have been completely dismembered by the fall and…would have either died or been completely disabled.”

“The height from which I fell,” he said, “is equivalent to falling from the third floor of an apartment building.”

Lawsuit against Mykonos beach bar

The unfortunate man’s attorney, told to the local news agency that Scorpios refused to compensate Vilimas and has shockingly shown no interest in his client’s injury.

He explained that despite being a long-time customer who has spent tens of thousands of euros at the beach bar together with his friends, they continue to have the same approach.

The attorney was instructed to file an indemnification action of hundreds of thousands of euros and to send a letter of protest to the U.S. Embassy regarding the matter.
