A date has been announced for Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli’s next Athens concert, which is expected to be his biggest concert to have ever taken place in Greece.
Less than a month since his compelling performance with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra at Sani Festival in Halkidiki in Northern Greece, it was announced on Tuesday that the world-famous musician will perform at the Olympic Stadium of Athens on July 18, 2023.
Bocelli’s Athens concerts
Bocelli is very popular with the Greek audience, and news of his next Athens concert has been making headlines on local media as soon as the 2023 date was officially announced.
The last time that Bocelli had performed in Athens was exactly three years ago on September 11, 2019 at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
Tickets for the July 2023 concert at the Olympic Stadium in Athens are already available to book.
Inspiring personal journey
Bocelli was born visually impaired and at the age of twelve became completely blind after a football accident.
He exhibited a great passion for music even in his early childhood, starting piano lessons at the age of six. He later learned to also play the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and drums. According to his mother, music was the only thing that would comfort him.
As a young adult, Bocelli performed in piano bars in the evenings and competed in local singing contests. He signed his first recording contract with the Sugar Music label after having been discovered by Italian pop artist Zucchero and having co-performed his song “Miserere” with Luciano Pavarotti in 1993. The song became a massive hit.
He rose to fame in 1994, when he won the prestigious 44th Sanremo Music Festival with his performance of “Il mare calmo della sera.”
Since 1994, Bocelli has recorded fifteen solo studio albums of both pop and classical music, three greatest hits albums, and nine complete operas, selling over seventy-five million records worldwide.
His album, Romanza, is one of the best-selling albums of all time, while Sacred Arias is the biggest selling classical album by any solo artist in history.
Today, Bocelli is considered the biggest selling classical artist of all time.
