US actress—filmmaker Angelina Jolie was spotted at numerous locations in the city of Lviv in war-torn Ukraine on Saturday, April 30th.

Jolie, who has spent almost two decades as a Special Envoy of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), was traveling in Ukraine in a personal capacity this time, not in her role as a UN Special Envoy.

“UNHCR has no involvement in this visit,” UN spokesperson Matt Saltmarsh said in an email statement.

Angelina Jolie’s visit in Ukraine

While in Lviv, Jolie visited the central railway station of the city to welcome internally displaced Ukrainians.

She reportedly met Ukrainian medical volunteers and visited orphans and injured children evacuated from the Donetsk region of the country.

Footage emerged of Jolie being taken to safety after an air-raid siren went off during her visit to the make-shift shelter inside the Lviv railway station.

The Hollywood star was later also seen at a coffee shop in Lviv  on Saturday afternoon.

A video shared by journalist Mayya Podgorodetskaya showed Jolie smiling and signing an autograph during her visit to the Ukrainian coffee shop.

“Ukraine is simply supported by the entire world,” the journalist commented.

Jolie’s 2016 visit to Greece

Angelina Jolie had visited Greece as a UN Special Envoy amidst the refugee crisis of 2016.

At the time, she said the refugees were stuck in a “deteriorating humanitarian situation” and needed help.

“I’m here to assist the efforts of the UN Refugee Agency and the Greek government, so that the urgent managing of the humanitarian crisis is expedited,” Jolie noted in a press release regarding her visit in Greece.

She visited refugee and migrant hotspots and camps in Moria, Cara Tepe, Skala Sikamineas, and the Mytilene airport on Lesbos island in order to observe the situation and offer aid.

She also spent about 30 minutes at the Port of Piraeus and visited another refugee camp in Eleonas.

Jolie’s visit to Greece as a UN Special Envoy for Refugees had concluded with a meeting with then-PM Tsipras at the Maximos Mansion.
