Coronavirus Measures Extended in Greece as 20,107 Cases Recorded

Greece announced that a total of 20,107 new coronavirus cases had been diagnosed around the country on Wednesday, while 88 people suffering with the virus had passed away over the past 24 hours.

There had been a total of 106 coronavirus-related deaths in Greece on Tuesday; Wednesday’s total represented a decrease of 18. A total of 23,340 Covid-19 cases had been diagnosed on Tuesday in Greece.

The number of admissions of new coronavirus patients to Greek hospitals on Wednesday came to 553, showing a daily increase of 16.42%. The average number of admissions over the last seven days was 537 patients.

Meanwhile, there are 683 people on ventilators across Greece on Wednesday, showing an increase of ten from the day prior.

81.55% of intubated patients with Covid-19 in Greece are unvaccinated

Among intubated patients, officials state that 557 (81.55%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 126 (18.45%) are fully vaccinated.

A total of 60 Covid-19 cases were identified after checks at the country’s entrance gates and borders.

The total number of cases as of Wednesday comes to 1,723,496. Based on the confirmed cases of the last seven days, 430 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,332 are related to an already known case.

A total of 22,285 Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. Almost all of the victims, 95.1%, suffered from underlying disease and / or were age 70 years and older.

On Wednesday, officials from the EODY stated that 80.4% of all intubated patients have an underlying disease and / or are age 70 years and older.

The median age of death in those who have the coronavirus in Greece is 78 years, showing no change from several days prior.

Coronavirus measures extended in Greece

Greece will extend the health measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus before the holidays for another yet another week.

The measures were extended last Wednesday, and will now be in effect until next week.

Music will continue to be banned from all restaurants, bars, and cafes, and such establishments can only remain open until midnight.

There is a limit of six customers to each table, and no patrons can be standing.

Greeks must wear either two surgical masks or one high-protection mask (KN95, N95, FFP2) in supermarkets, public transportation, and other high-traffic areas. Similar masking rules are in effect for all those who work in the service industry as well.

The number of spectators at sports fields and stadiums will be reduced to 10% of the venue’s capacity, with a cap of 1,000 people.

According to the new measures, a total of 50% of workers in both the private and public sectors will work from home.

In order to protect residents, all visitors to senior-care homes and facilities for those with long-term illnesses will have to show a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of their visit, regardless of their vaccination status.
