Greece recorded 7,335 cases of the coronavirus on Monday — the highest number ever recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

The record for the highest number of coronavirus cases recorded in one day was broken on Friday, when 6,909 cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed in Greece.

In the past day, a total of 114,388 coronavirus tests have been administered, including both PCR and rapid tests, bringing the positivity rate in Greece to 6.41%.

Tragically, 65 people suffering from the coronavirus passed away in Greece over the past 24-hour period.

The average age of those who have tested positive for the virus in Greece is 39, and the average age of those who have died with the virus is 78.

A total of just 17 of Monday’s cases were identified during routine Covid-19 testing of tourists at the country’s borders.

Currently, there are 447 patients with the coronavirus on ventilators in Greece.

US allows vaccinated foreign travelers into country

On Monday, the U.S. lifted its international travel ban for vaccinated visitors that had been imposed in March of 2020 when Covid-19 was first declared a pandemic.

Starting today, visitors from the EU, U.K., South Africa, India, Brazil, and China will be free to visit the U.S, with a new set of rules, including vaccination requirements.

Under the new rules, inbound non-citizens will have to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before they fly into the U.S. That means the second of a two-dose vaccine must have been completed at least two weeks prior to departure. Documentation can be shown as either a paper certificate, a photo of the document or a digitized version. It will be reviewed by airline personnel.

Accepted vaccines are those approved or authorized by the Food and Drug Administration and those listed for use by the World Health Organization: Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Sinopharm and Sinovac.

The U.S. will also require proof of a negative Covid test from within the past three days for all vaccinated travelers. The country has required that since January for all arrivals, including U.S. citizens.

If any traveler is not vaccinated, including U.S. citizens, the Covid test must have been taken within one day of departure.

Both rapid antigen and PCR test results will be accepted.
