Hollywood star Gerard Butler has broken up his relationship with Sofia Harmanda, the Greek model announced during a TV show on Tuesday.
The pair, who were fiercely secretive about their relationship and private lives, met in early 2020 in Los Angeles where Harmanda was seeking a career in Hollywood. Their romance lasted for 18 months.
Speaking to Greek media, Harmanda revealed, when asked about the romance with the Hollywood star, that “We have a very good relationship, but we are no longer together.”
“Even now we have good relations”, Harmanda initially said, continuing: “He is very good, very respectful, and knows how to treat a woman”.
Butler became famous for playing King Leonidas in the epic movie “300”. That role earned him nominations for an Empire Award for Best Actor and a Saturn Award for Best Actor and a win for MTV Movie Award for Best Fight.
He told The Hollywood Reporter that the intense training he embarked on for the movie “300” took a massive toll on his body. He worked out for six hours every day to prepare for the demands of the role. This training included two hours of CrossFit training, two hours of bodybuilding, and two hours of fight training, to help him with the film’s extensive action sequences.
Butler on that one line: “This is Sparta!”
In the same interview, the actor explained “I had done quite a few takes and most of them were ‘This is Sparta,’” said in a low, monotone growl. “And it’s part process and part insecurity, maybe. And I go, ‘Can I just try another?’”
The next take would be the often-imitated scream from director Zack Snyder’s film.
“And I turn around and all my army is literally like this,” Butler said with a hand over his mouth hiding laughter. “And I go up to Zack and I go, ‘That was too much?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah! But it was awesome!’”
During an interview with Greek Reporter, Butler spoke with fondness of his experience on the set of “300,” saying that it had been the “most intense and enjoyable movie (he) ever made”. Butler added, “it made me feel Greek!”
Butler in Greece for the Olympic torch relay
Thousands of people had gathered in Sparta to see him marching along the streets of the city as part of the relay.
Despite the authorities’ suggestion to people not to gather, thousands rushed to the statue of Leonidas to get a glimpse of the famous actor. When Butler reached the site where Leonidas’ statue stands, he shouted ”This is Sparta!” his famous roaring line from the “300” movie.
Butler was also self-quarantined at Sparta for a time during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
