Stefanos Tsitsipas Wins First Tokyo Olympics Tennis Match

Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Germany’s Phillipp Kohlschreiber in their first tennis match of the Men’s Singles for the Olympic Games of Tokyo in Japan.

The Greek tennis champion won the first set 6-3 but lost the second with the exact same score, 3-6.

During the first set, Tsitsipas showed determination and managed to beat his German opponent. Nonetheless, the second set was not ideal for the Greek player, as a series of mistakes allowed Kohlschreiber to win.

However, after an excellent performance, Tsitsipas got the third set with the same score –again– and won the game 2-1.

Tsitsipas reached Roland Garros final earlier this summer

The Greek tennis superstar had reached the first Grand Slam final of his career in June but failed just short to the World Number One Novak Djokovic.

After a dramatic game lasting more than four hours, Djokovic won 3-2, coming from behind at 0-2 down. Djokovic is the first man to win all four majors at least twice in the open era.

Tsitsipas had won the first two sets 7-6, 62. But the Serb master came back. He won the third and fourth 6-3, 6-2. In the decider, Djokovic broke early Tsitsipas serve, and won 6-4. The 34-year-old Serb found his form and held every service game in the final three sets

At just 22, tennis pandits agree that the Greek champion will be back on this stage plenty more times. The day will come and not long from now, but he didn’t quite have the staying power to get it done on that day in June.

It also has to be noted that Tsitsipas’ beloved grandmother passed away just five minutes before the start of the Roland Garros final against Novak Djokovic.

In an emotional farewell to his grandmother, who died in her village near Karditsa, central Greece, Tsitsipas revealed that “Five minutes before entering the court my very beloved grandmother lost her battle with life. A wise woman whose faith in life, and willingness to give and provide can’t be compared to any other human being that I have ever met.”

Maria Sakkari Won Anett Kontaveit in First Tokyo Olympics Match

Greek tennis champion Maria Sakkari managed to beat Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit after a comfortable win, in straight sets, in her first match for the Olympic Games of Tokyo on Saturday.

Sakkari won the first set 7-5 and 6-2 the second, gaining an easy 2-0 win in approximately 92 minutes of action.

However, the beginning of the match was not a piece of cake for the Greek player, who is currently No19 in the world.

She found herself losing 2-5, with a set victory for the Estonian player looking almost certain.

However, the Spartan woman showed her true self and managed to overturn the bad result, turning the 2-5 in to 7-5 in a matter of minutes.

During the second set of the match, Sakkari was in a better position and ended up winning with an impressive 6-2.
