Greece recorded 1,585 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, which marks 320 fewer instances of the virus than the 1,905 cases recorded on Thursday.

Just six of Friday’s total cases were identified during routine Covid-19 testing of tourists at the country’s borders.

Additionally, there are 521 patients with Covid-19 on ventilators on Friday, which is 19 fewer than the 540 patients undergoing the invasive treatment in the country yesterday, Thursday.

A total of 76,854 coronavirus tests were conducted across the country during the day, bringing the positivity rate to 4.31% in Greece, down from yesterday’s rate of 5.89%.

Tragically, 40 people suffering from the coronavirus passed away in the country over the past 24-hour period, which represents one more than those who died with the virus on Thursday.

Gyms to open on Monday; Still no music in restaurants, cafes

During a press conference, Greek Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Chardalias announced on Friday that gyms, along with outdoor sports fields, will open on Monday.

As the epidemiological situation in the country continues to improve, more Greeks will return to the office after months of working from home as well.

Chardalias stated on Friday that the mandatory 50% of the workforce that was previously working from home will be reduced to 25%.

Since early May, when bars, cafes, and restaurants reopened, music of any kind has been prohibited. Nights out will remain silent for the time being, Chardalias announced.

Experts believe that music can contribute to the transmission of the virus, as patrons have to talk louder to be heard over loud music, which produces more droplets that can spread Covid-19.

804 cases of Covid-19 diagnosed in Attica alone; 140 in Thessaloniki

Of the 1,585 new coronavirus cases recorded in Greece in the past 24 hours, 804 were located in Attica, home to the Greek capital city of Athens.

Instances of the virus were particularly high in the center of the city itself, where 220 cases of Covid-19 were identified Friday.

Tests showed that in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, a total of 140 cases of Covid-19 had been diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

Over 10,000 total coronavirus deaths in Greece

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 398,898 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the country, including all those who have recovered from the virus.

Of the cases diagnosed in Greece in the past seven days, just 28 are associated with foreign travel and 2,102 have been linked to contact with a known case.

Of the 512 patients intubated currently, 85.6% are over the age of 70 or suffer from preexisting conditions. Their average age is 68.

On Friday alone, 231 people with the coronavirus were admitted to hospitals in Greece.

Additionally, a total of 2,411 patients have been discharged from ICUs around the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 40 new deaths recorded on Friday bring the total number of fatalities in the country to 11,995; 95.1% of those who have passed away with the virus were over the age of 70 or suffered from underlying health issues.
