Greece Announces 1,402 New Coronavirus Cases; 56 Deaths

EODY, Greece’s Public Health Organization announced on Monday that a total of 56 new coronavirus deaths had been recorded in the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll of the pandemic to 11,415.

Monday’s death toll marked an increase of six people over those who had succumbed with the virus one day prior.

Additionally, EODY announced that 1,402 people had been diagnosed with the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, representing an increase of 140 individuals over the previous day, Sunday, when 1,262 new coronavirus infections had been reported.

This is still a major decrease from the 1,957 who had been diagnosed on Saturday and the 2,188 people who had been diagnosed last Friday, however. Greece has confirmed a total of 378,485 total cases Ince the pandemic began, showing a daily change of + 0.4%. Just over half, or 51.2%, of all victims, are male.

Nearly all, or 95.2 percent, of those who have died in Greece with COVID-19 suffered from an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or above.

A total of 647 patients (62.6% men) are currently treated by intubation, down from a total of 661 on Saturday, 677 on Friday, and 707 the day prior. Their median age is 67 years and approximately 82.5 percent suffer from an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or over. Sixty-two percent of these patients are male.

On a positive note, approximately 2,300 people have been discharged from ICUs in Greece since the coronavirus pandemic began in the country in February 2020.
