Greek-Filipino actor Dave Bautista was just cast in “Knives Out 2”, the sequel to the hit, celebrity-filled murder mystery comedy, which is set to film in Greece later this year.

Though it might not seem like much intimidates the ultra-strong wrestler-turned-actor, Bautista admitted he’s a little intimidated.

In an interview with Slash Film, the actor said “it feels terrifying. I’m nervous about it. I’m really nervous.” Though Bautista has been acting for years, most notably in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, he mostly specializes in action roles.

“Knives Out 2” expects comedic timing and different acting skills from him. Bautista seems excited to take his career in this new direction, and realizes that he will be performing next to some powerhouse, experienced actors.

However, director Rian Johnson and Netflix, the forces behind the “Knives Out” sequel, seem to have the utmost faith in Bautista. After all, they have placed him in a stellar cast with every confidence he will be able to perform next to them.

Bautista’s co-stars in “Knives Out 2” include Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, and Kathryn Hahn.

Bautista’s Career: From Wrestler to Actor

The fact that Bautista came to acting relatively late in life seems to be on his mind. “There’s always going to be a part of me that feels like I’m new to this and I’m still learning, and I want to be able to hold my own.”

The actor has been seeking more serious and also comedic roles in his career, rather than just straight action films. Audiences responded very positively to his turn in “Stuber”, a comedy he filmed with Kumail Nanjiani. Film buffs can also check out Bautista in the trailer for the upcoming “Dune” reboot alongside Timothee Chalamet.

“Knives Out 2” with Dave Bautista is one of many productions slated to film in Greece later this year. David Cronenberg’s next new highly anticipated feature will be filming in Greece as well. The country’s recent tax rebate program is drawing in productions from the US, the UK, and all over the world.

Greek Reporter interviewed Dave Bautista about his Greek heritage. See the full interview below:

In it, the actor admitted that though he had tremendous pride in his Greek background, he hadn’t yet been to Greece. “I want to go to Greece so bad…I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never been.”

The filming of “Knives Out 2” may provide Bautista with just the opportunity he’s been looking for to explore Greece. His mother is of Greek origin. The actor shared that part of the reason he was a little more connected to his Filipino heritage was because he grew up more with his father’s side of the family.

However, he seems set on maintaining Greek culture in his family, perhaps the reason he named his daughter Athena.

“Knives Out 2” is set to premiere some time in 2022.
