Greece was featured five times on a list of best European destinations for vaccinated travelers by European Best Destinations, which develops and promotes European tourism and culture.

As Europe works to introduce an EU-wide digital vaccination certificate, called a “Green Pass,” many Europeans who have already been inoculated against Covid-19 are now looking to book their summer holidays.

Greece to open for tourism May 14, those vaccinated won’t quarantine

Greece, with an economy reliant on tourism, has been a proponent of such “vaccination certificates” or “vaccine passports” since they were first proposed.

The country plans to open its borders on May 14 to those who have either received the vaccination or can provide evidence of a negative coronavirus test taken within 72 hours of their arrival.

Officials have affirmed that those who have already been inoculated against the coronavirus will be welcomed into the Mediterranean country this summer without having to follow Greece’s strict quarantine rules.

This makes Greece the perfect destination for those who have received their shot and are looking to finally travel after a year of staying at home.

Rethymno, Crete is highest ranked spot for vaccinated tourists in Greece

The five stunning locations included on the list are all equally iconic, beautiful areas of Greece, a country which has long been considered a top travel destination.

Rethymno is a small, traditional city on the island of Crete. Known for its history, breathtaking views, and nearby beaches, Rethymno, which ranks fourth on the list, is the perfect spot for those looking for an authentic Greek holiday this summer.

The island of Kefalonia, located in the Ionian Sea, sits at the fifth spot on the ranking of top destinations for vaccinated tourists.

Consistently voted one of the most beautiful islands in Europe, Kefalonia is renowned for its gem-toned, clear, turquoise waters and colorful homes built in a traditional style.

Athens, the historic Greek capital full of ancient monuments and contemporary flair, sits at the ninth place on the list. One of the oldest cities in Europe, Athens has it all, and is perfect for any kind of traveler.

Art and history lovers will be enchanted by the city’s many museums and monuments, and those looking for leisure can enjoy the many cafes, restaurants, and shops lining the city’s streets.

Islands of Rhodes, Kos also listed

Rhodes, with its remarkably well-preserved medieval town and sun soaked beaches, is a magical destination for those looking to get away from the crowds.

The many traditional villages and secluded beaches in Rhodes make the island a wonderful choice for a unique trip.

The final Greek location featured on the ranking is Kos, the third largest island in the Dodecanese and the birthplace of Hippocrates, “the Father of Medicine.”

A prominent island in antiquity, Kos is home to countless ancient Greek and Roman sites, including beautiful preserved mosaics.

In addition to these ancient marvels, Kos also contains wide stretches of sandy beaches with clear-blue waters.

Greek islands a top summer destination for German travelers

Germans are itching to travel to the Greek islands this summer, according to Norbert Fiebig, President of the Travel Agents Union.

Fiebig stressed that reservations for summer travel are slowly increasing as Germans are optimistic about tourism due to increasing inoculation rates in the country and the EU’s upcoming “vaccine passport.”

After the massive hit the international tourism sector took due to the pandemic in 2020, many in the industry consider the vaccine an essential tool in bringing tourism back in 2021.

As a great number of Germans did not take international trips last summer, Fiebig believes that many will opt to travel outside of the country during the upcoming tourist season.

Greece and Turkey are currently the top travel destinations for German travelers, according to Fiebig.
