Israeli-Greek Defense Agreement Worth 1.68 Billion Lauded

The Israeli-Greek defense agreement signed recently drew high praise on Monday, with Israel describing it as “reflecting the excellent and developing relations” between the countries.
The $1.68 billion defense agreement which was approved by the Greek Parliament is the largest ever agreed upon by the two countries.

Following an international bidding process, Greece approved the Israel MoD’s winning bid to establish a flight academy for the Hellenic Air Force, which will be built and operated by Elbit Systems.
The agreement which will be signed by both defense ministries also includes the procurement of ten M-346 aircraft and maintenance of T-6 aircraft, as well as the provision of flight simulators, training & logistic support.

Serving interests of both countries

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said that “this agreement reflects the excellent and developing relations we have with Greece. It is a long term partnership that will serve the interests of both countries.”
He added that he thanked the Greek Minister of Defense, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, “for his personal involvement in advancing this project.”
“I also commended the recent strengthening of defense relations between our countries and noted my expectation that these will deepen further,” Gantz said.
Brig. Gen. Yair Kulas, chief of the Directorate for International Defense Cooperation in the Defense Ministry, was quoted as saying by the Jerusalem Post that “this is not just a defense export agreement, but rather a partnership for at least 20 years.”
