Covid-19: Cases Fall in Greece as Deaths Remain High

After many weeks of high covid-19 case numbers in the country, the number of daily cases recorded in Greece has finally fallen for the past two days.

The country recorded a total of 526 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, 62 fewer than the 588 cases recorded yesterday, Sunday.

On Saturday, a total of 901 cases of the virus were diagnosed in Greece.

Tragically, 85 people with the virus passed away on Monday, 15 more than those who had lost their lives on Sunday, and there are currently 505 patients with Covid-19 on intubation in Greece.

In total, 131,597 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic, including all those who have recovered from the virus. Of this total, 5,229 are associated with foreign travel, and 38,481 are associated with contact with a known case.

Of the 505 patients intubated currently, 77.4% are over the age of 70 or suffer from preexisting conditions.

Their median age is 67, and 164 of the patients are female. A total of 812 patients have been discharged from ICUs around the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 85 new deaths recorded on Monday bring the total number of fatalities in the country to 4,257. Of all those who lost their lives after suffering from the virus, a total of 1,717 have been female.

The median age of those who passed away with Covid-19 is 79, and 95.7% of them were over the age of 70 or suffered from underlying health issues.
