NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo joined the campaign against Covid-19 in Greece by starring in a video in which he calls on people to defend themselves against the virus by observing public safety measures, including wearing a mask.
Fresh from agreeing to a supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks earlier in the week, Antetokounmpo wears a mask decorated with a Greek flag, saying that “winning starts by playing good defense.”
He calls on the Greek people to “play defense against the invisible enemy,” so that in the end we are “all MVP!”
The video features photographs of Antetokounmpo growing up in an Athens neighborhood and playing for the Greek national team.
Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked the “Greek Freak” for joining the fight against Covid and shared the video on his own Twitter account:
“During the holidays we continue the crucial fight for our health. It is time for life to take revenge. I thank Giannis Antetokounmpo, who stars in this message, uniting my voice with his words: “Together, we ‘play defense’ and win our freedom again.”
