Strict Lockdown in Kozani

Greek Deputy Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Chardalias announced a series of new emergency measures on Friday for the region surrounding the northern Greek city of Kozani, where the virus has spread rapidly.

The stricter measures will be in place in Kozani starting early Saturday morning.
On Thursday, Chardalias announced a series of draconian measures in certain areas of western Attica, including an early curfew, starting at 6 PM and running until 5 AM.

The measures announced for Kozani on Friday, including the earlier curfew, are the same as those in effect in Elefsina, Aspropygo, Vilia, and Mandra in western Attica.

Chardalias announced Friday that bookstores, as well as hair and nail salons, which only just opened on Monday, will close once again in Kozani, along with all farmers markets.

All religious services, apart from funerals, which will be limited to ten guests, will be on hold for seven days in the region.

The retail sector in Greece has been partially opened, on a curbside service only basis, since Monday, allowing customers to order products online or over the phone and then pick them up from the store at specific times.

In Kozani, this curbside option will be halted for one week.

In order to acquire a full picture of the region’s epidemiological status, Chardalias announced that the state will conduct mass coronavirus testing and extensive contact tracing in order to best curb the spread of Covid-19 in Kozani.

Those who work in nursing homes in Kozani will be subject to Covid-19 testing every five days in hopes of avoiding any more potential outbreaks.
