Ioannis, the Bishop of Langadas in Thessaloniki, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 62.
The ecclesiastical figure was hospitalized on Friday, and doctors did their best to save his life; however, this proved not to be possible.
The Papageorgiou Hospital of Thessaloniki issued a statement in which it noted that the Bishop had also suffered from other underlying health issues, something which played a crucial role in the rapid deterioration of his health.
Ioannis graduated from the Ecclesiastical Pedagogical Academy of Thessaloniki in 1979 and the Department of Pastoral and Social Theology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1982.
He was elected on May 10, 2010, by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece as Bishop of Langadas, Liti, and Rentina.
