In a Wednesday interview with RTL Radio, European Council President Charles Michel pledged that the European Union will assess Turkey’s behavior before the end of this year.

Michel also described as “unacceptable” the recent comments of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against French President Emmanuel Macron which prompted him, he said, to respond immediately, referring to his Twitter post of several days ago.

The EC executive had written “Instead of a positive agenda, Turkey chooses challenges, unilateral actions in the Mediterranean and now insults. It is unacceptable. Respect for Europe and its Member States.”

Earlier, the nation of France called on the European Union to approve measures against the state of Turkey at the next summit.

In other remarks, the president of the European Council, when asked about the coronavirus situation, noted that it is now a “mass wave” adding that “the virus has not revealed all its mysteries.”

Speaking of a potential vaccine for the virus, Michel expressed the hope that one would be available before the end of the year, or early 2021.
