Greeks Divided over Coronavirus: Only One Half would Take the Vaccine

The division among Greeks in regards to Covid-19 is captured in a new study according to which only half would take the vaccine when it is available and if it is administered for free by the state.
The latest study of Greek think tank DiaNEOsis in collaboration with Metron Analysis pollsters shows that 49.5 percent of Greeks would agree to be vaccinated today if the vaccine was approved by EU and Greek competent authorities and was provided for free by the state, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had announced in August.
Yet, 41.9 percent said they would not take the vaccine, showing that a substantial part of the population remain suspicious about Covid-19 and/or they do not believe in vaccination.
The DiaANEOsis study entitled “Seven months of pandemic: How the Greeks live”, shows that Greeks are much less optimistic now than they were in April, when Greece was the champion in containing the coronavirus.
The study shows that Greeks appear more aware of the pandemic and more realistic. Only 25.7 percent of respondents believe that they belong to a “vulnerable” group and 73 percent believe that “more difficult days are ahead” with only 18.8 percent believing that the worst is over.
In regards to their lifestyle and social habits, 76.3 percent say they attend fewer social events (weddings, christenings) than before the pandemic and 62.9 percent say they eat less often in restaurants and taverns.
A substantial 73.9 percent of Greeks admit that their life has changed “a lot” or “quite a lot”. Also, there are no members of population groups, age groups, social class or ideological groups that largely state that their lives have not changed.
Work, unemployment and overall labor issues continue to be a great concern for many. While 72.7 percent of employees in September stated that they work normally in their workplace and only 12.2 percent work online, 13 percent of the total number of employees are suspended or work part-time.
In regards to the economy, 57.2 percent of respondents believe that the Greek economy  will be in worse shape than it is now.
