Charles Michel, the leader of the European Union Council, has been exposed to the coronavirus by an EU employee, and therefore has been placed in quarantine, although he himself has tested negative.
That has thrown the upcoming planned EU Summit into a tailspin, as the meeting has now been postponed.
Today’s announcement, by another employee of Michel, confirmed that he will have to stay in quarantine for an indefinite time due to his contact with a security guard at EU headquarters in Brussels.
The much-anticipated summit, which will deal with Turkey’s aggression and provocative actions in the eastern Mediterranean, will now take place on October 1st and 2nd.
A spokesman for Michel stated that “The president of the council was informed today that a security guard, with whom he contacted the authorities last week, was diagnosed with the coronavirus.”
“The president takes regular tests and yesterday he was diagnosed negative. Respecting the rules of Belgium, he has been quarantined,” the spokesman added.
