Police on the Greek island of Lesvos are moving thousands of migrants and refugees from the fire-gutted Moria camp to a new tent city nearby.
Seventy female officers in protective suits were flown in to organize the transfer of women and children to the temporary Kara Tepe camp.
A government official said 1,800 individuals had moved into Kara Tepe by early Thursday. AMNA reports that a large number of refugees and migrants who had been camped out on the sides of roads are voluntarily packing up and moving toward the new facility.
But many migrants and refugees remain reluctant to stay on Lesvos, as Moria was overcrowded and the conditions there had become squalid due to the huge influx of migrants. They hope to go elsewhere in Europe, especially Germany.
On Wednesday, four Afghan asylum seekers were charged with starting the fire that destroyed Moria last week.
