Firefighters on Kefalonia have been battling wildfires all night for the second day, while Argostoli mayor advises residents of certain areas to evacuate as strong winds make the direction of the blaze unpredictable.
On the island there are currently 102 firemen trying to contain the blaze, with the use of 21 vehicles and the help of six special units for disaster management (EMAK) and Attica policemen. Firefighting aircraft and helicopters are also operating during the day.

There are three active outbreaks on the island.at the moment, in Kampitsata, Anninata and Helmata, with the latter fire close to be contained.
In Kampitsata, the fire is raging near the Agia Irini village, which is not threatened at the moment, however, a suggestion was made for a precautionary evacuation.
The work of the fire service is hampered by the strong winds in the Ionian Sea. It is noted that the high risk of wildfires remains for Saturday, according to an announcement by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.
