A total of 202 new coronavirus cases were announced by Greek officials on Friday, along with one new death in a victim who succumbed with the virus.
Out of Friday’s 202 cases, 86 were located in Attica, and only nine were identified by testing at Greece’s points of entry.
The number of coronavirus cases in the country since the start of the pandemic has reached 11,200. According to data, around 20% of the cases were associated with international travel, while about 44% stem from contact with a known case. The source of the remaining cases is unclear.
Since January, over one million coronavirus tests have been conducted in Greece.
Data shows that an increasing number of confirmed Covid cases in Greece are in individuals under 40 years of age. This worrying increase in younger victims may lead to further spread of the virus, as younger carriers may have slight — or no — symptoms and infect others unknowingly.
