Cale Brown, the spokesperson for the office of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Sunday, August 16 that the Secretary had met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in the Dominican Republic.
The statement read: “Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Cavusoglu met today in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic. They discussed issues of mutual concern, including the urgent need to reduce tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
No other details were disclosed regarding the event, other than Secretary Pompeo noting later that the meeting had been “timely” in a Tweet he posted about the meeting.
