Greece’s National Public Health Organization recently announced that 75 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported within the past 24 hours, as well as 2 deaths.
The statement was released on Sunday, August 2, where health authorities explained how the country’s current total number of patients in Greece has reached 4,662 since the start of the pandemic. The rate of infection was also said to have increased considerably.
Out of the 75 cases, 4 of them were discovered at the country’s border gates through the implementation of routine checks, as specified by official health and safety protocols.
The NPHO also stated that 27.7 percent of cases (1,290) are considered to be related to travel from abroad, while 49.5 percent (2,308) are connected to already known cases.

Recent spikes in Covid-19 have occurred mainly due to Greece’s tourist season and the influx of travelers, as well as a noticeable trend within certain regions of the country where regulations and health mandates aren’t being implemented to the fullest extent.
As a result, police have remained vigilant in their continued checks for violations of social distancing guidelines to curb the spread of Covid-19, focusing their attention mainly on island hotspots such as Mykonos and Santorini where tourists frequent the most.
On the island of Paros, six nightclubs were recently raided, with police shutting down one of the establishments for 15 days due to overcrowding. In Santorini, three nightclub owners were also arrested for excessive noise levels after police conducted routine inspections.
As both the National Public Health Organization and police continue to monitor the spread of Covid-19, health officials urge Greece to continue adhering to health regulations.
