International travelers from Greece and Cyprus are no longer required to quarantine for 14 days upon entering Ireland, due to the country recently reviewing its travel mandates.
This new move has now put the two nations in Ireland’s “green” list, including other provinces such as Malta, Finland, Norway, Hungary, Italy, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Greenland, Gibraltar, Monaco and San Marino.
The list is part of Ireland’s initiative to address the Covid-19 pandemic in midst of its tourist season, and to try to mitigate the spread of the virus among travelers and residents.
“We’re looking at countries that may effectively become hotspots for Covid-19 in the months ahead, or indeed regions within the countries, and looking at ways in which we can deal with that risk,” explained Irish Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney, on Wednesday.
Minister Coveney also emphasized that despite some countries now being able to visit Ireland, the best course of action that tourists can take is to stay home.
In addition to his statement, he added that, “The message is still clear, the safest thing to do is not to take your holidays abroad, look after your family, spend your money at home and holiday at home.”
Ireland’s list of countries that are able to travel will be updated every two weeks, while the nation continues to monitor how the virus will progress throughout the season.
