Greece Reports 28 Additional Cases of Covid-19; One Death

Health officials from Greece’s National Public Health Organization reported that 28 new cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed in the country during the past 24 hours.
The announcement was released to the public early on Friday, July 17. According to authorities, 12 out of the 28 individuals who were tested at the border gates of the country during routine checks, as called for by the current health and safety measures.
Out of the total recorded imported cases, the National Public Health Organization specified that four of those with the virus had been diagnosed through voluntary testing.
The geological distribution of the other 16 local cases included three from the region of Attica, two from Thessaloniki, two in Xanthi, two in Magnesia, two reported in Larissa, and one diagnosis confirmed each in Heraklion and Halkidiki.
Currently, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Greece has reached 3,964, with one more patient having passed away from the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities in Greece to 194.
Considering all the available information on reported instances of the virus, it appears that Greece is successfully containing the contagion despite its reopening to tourists from most of the world on July 1.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had recently called for officials to not relax any health measures already taken, but to continue to strictly enforce them in order to protect both residents and travelers.
