In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Hellenic Innovation Network has launched a series of webcasts meant to keep the community connected until in-person gatherings can take place once more.

The initiative was undertaken with the support of MIT Enterprise Forum Greece and the Consulate General of Greece in Boston. The webcast series consists of five online conversations, held over the course of May and June, 2020.

Topics within the discussions included the life sciences, technology, innovation, and aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The webinars also featured distinguished members of the Hellenic Diaspora, hailing from various fields, to provide insight on the state of research in Greece.

Biotech entrepreneur Leonidas Alexopoulos, former CSO of Facebook Alex Stamos, and MIT Professor of Computer Science Manolis Kellis were among those who were present at the talks.

“We were delighted to hear from Chairman Dermitzakis about Greece’s commitment to further fuel research and innovation,” said Greek Consulate General in Boston Stratos Efthymiou, in regards to Greece’s commitment to fuel innovation.

The Hellenic Innovation Network’s mission is to empower Greek startups and to serve as a bridge to the U.S. by fostering opportunities for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas and expand their network.

According to HIT President Marina Hatsopoulos, “Greeks have always thrived outside of Greece — in research, academia, and entrepreneurship. With the support of the Greek government, and the Greek diaspora, Greeks are well-positioned to thrive within Greece.”

The Hellenic Innovation Network (HIN) grew out of the MIT Enterprise Forum Greece in 2019, with the support of the Consulate General of Greece in Boston.
